I have come across lots of articles in the newspaper about incidents where some Atheists and American youth burning down Qurans, making films and comics that insults the great prophet of Islam Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which triggered many muslims to act violently sometimes causing deaths. However, Neither Islam nor its messenger advocated violence. So so much so that prophet himself was attacked and ridiculed by his own people but he never took violence as a weapon to defend his honour. He knew the difference between the “CONTAINER” and the “CONTENTS”.
Someone may blow up many mosques in Sri Lanka, Myanmar etc, burn down Qurans and Islamic scriptures, or they can kill Scholars; they may destroy all of this but I will never allow them to destroy Islam. You may burn down a Quran, but you will never burn forgiveness, peace and compassion that it teaches, down to ashes. You may ridicule Prophet Muhammd (pbuh) but you will never burn the religion the morales he taught.
The same way when some Americans burned down the Quran, they never destroyed Islam. Just its container. Muslims didn’t allow themselves to get angry or seek revenge. If Mualims sought revenge, then they would not only have destroyed the holy book but also destroyed Islam, the contents. It’s the contents that are more important than any container.
The book is not the religion, nor the mosque. These are only “containers.”
What does the book teach us? What does the Mosque represent? What qualities are the Muslim supposed to embody? This is the “content”.
When we recognise the difference between the container and the contents, then we will preserve the contents even when the container is being destroyed.
We can print more books, build more mosques, but when we lose our love and respect for others and ourselves and replace it with violence, then the whole religion has gone down the fire.
In this way, destroying an Islamic holy book or showing disrespect to a great prophet only shows the shallowness or the characters of the people and their believe system which they claim to be their truth. What is sown, will be reaped, if its not followed by remorse or regrets to reduce the effects. Thus, there is no point for Muslims to react, except maybe protest a little, as things will run its own course in due time.
